Every teacher working in a Victorian school must hold current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic). It’s an offence to employ an unregistered teacher in a teaching role, and the employer must confirm registration before a teacher starts.
Teachers must complete annual registration by 30 September, with a grace period to 31 December. A teacher can hold provisional or full registration, or Permission to Teach, a limited authorisation that exists mainly to fill workforce shortages. What they can be asked to do follows from which.
On our monitored plans, we monitor the register every month and alert you to a lapse or a new condition, including for teachers already on staff. On the Verified plan, it’s a point-in-time verification you can re-run whenever you choose.
