How accreditation works in New South Wales

Accreditation is held at Conditional, Proficient, Highly Accomplished or Lead. Proficient accreditation is renewed every five years against evidence of ongoing professional development, and conditions can be attached at any level.

On our monitored plans, we monitor the register every month and alert you to a lapse or a new condition, including for teachers already on staff. On the Verified plan, it’s a point-in-time verification you can re-run whenever you choose.

Every teacher working in a New South Wales school must hold current accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority under the Teacher Accreditation Act 2004 (NSW). Teaching without it is unlawful, and the employer is required to confirm accreditation before a teacher begins work. The teacher holds the accreditation, but the duty to verify it sits with you.
